Southern part of the country is a narrow peninsula encompasses with 2 oceans that create a very distinctive climate region. This region apparently contains a high diversity of habitats comprising pristine tropical rain forest mountains, mangroves, beautiful sandy beaches, mudflats, freshwater wetlands, peat swamp forest, limestone karst mountains, and tropical islands. The south is less visited region compares to other regions, even though there are so many sough-after and elusive species inhabit in many parks. Because of its longer rainy season, more thick and dense forests, considered to be farther traveling distance from Bangkok, and some areas seem to be risky by their location on Thailand-Malaysia border. Popular birding sites include Khao Dinsor Raptor Research Station, Sri Pang-nga National Park, Krabi Mangroves, Cheow Lan Lake, Krung Ching Waterfall, Thale Ban National Park, Thale Noi Wetland, Sirindhorn Peat Swamp Forest, San Kala Khiri National Park, and Hala-Bala Wildlife Sanctuary.
